Panama is close to both the Caribbean and South America, so it’s no surprise that it is filled with beautiful unobstructed beaches with gorgeous views. El Palmar beach is located only one hour away from Casco Viejo, making it an excellent place to get away from the city. Along the way you can witness the gorgeous vistas that Panama has to offer: rolling hills, dense forests, and often, during the rainy season, large clouds flickering with lightning in the distance.

I was fortunate share a ride with a friend, but El Palmar is accessible by bus. from the Albrook Bus Terminal. Take the bus to Rio Hato or Penonome and ask the driver to let you off the “entrada a el Palmar” one-way bus approximately $4. For those interested in taking surf lessons. On the website you will find a list of accommodations at the beach. http://www.panamasurfschool.com/

Going to El Palmar is recommended during the week as the beach is not very busy. The water is warm and the breaks are smooth, making it an ideal place for novice surfers. With the easy going atmosphere you can easily spend a day sitting back soaking in the rays.
